| Lowe complete Walsall Manor Hospital Contract
Lowe Engineering have recently completed the redevelopment of Manor Hospital, Walsall for our client Skanska Innisfree a consortium, which provides extensive renewal of the existing hospital – some of which is 150 years old – with the development of new facilities. The new, unified, hospital will have 558 inpatient beds, a new state-of-the-art Diagnostic and Treatment Centre and a new Women, Children and Young People’s Centre linked to the existing maternity unit.
A new multi-professional education centre will provide superb training facilities integrated with the mainstream hospital environment. In addition, a modular ward block containing 136 beds offers the local health community flexibility for future needs.
Skanska Infrastructure Development and its partner Innisfree hold 50% each of the special purpose company, The Walsall Hospital Company plc. Each partner has invested around £ 8.2 million. The consortium also holds a 33-year concession which includes the design and construction contract and hard facilities management, all of which will be carried out by Skanska. Skanska Innisfree is the UK’s most successful provider of health PPPs, with a portfolio including major hospitals in Coventry, Derby and Mansfield, as well as the Barts and the Royal London new hospitals project in London a majority of which Lowe Engineering are proud to state they have been invloved in. Nigel Lowe MD stated "We are just in the final stages of completing our seventh PFI Hospital providing Secondary Steelwork, Architectural Metalwork and Riser Pods "
At Walsall, construction is valued at £174 million and the hard FM service contract is valued at around £2.3 million per year. Construction of all new accommodation is set to complete in autumn 2010, with full completion of the development in summer 2011, including demolition of the old estate and landscaping. |
